MGSIPA organized training for Teachers on Drug Abuse Prevention

Patiala-Two days capacity building training programme for School Teachers of Patiala District on Drug Abuse Prevention was held at Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration Punjab (MGSIPA), Regional Centre, Patiala. It was sponsored by National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.

Sanjeev Kumar Bansal, Deputy District Education Officer (Secondary Education) Patiala stressed the need of capacity building for the teachers to get rid of drug abuse among students.

Amarjeet Singh Sodhi, Project Coordinator, MGSIPA Regional Centre Patiala discussed with the participants regarding the objectives & schedule of the programme. He advised them to be practicable after this training programme.

Eminent Resource Persons from De-Addiction Centre (Saket Hospital) Patiala Parminder Kaur, Director, Amarjeet Kaur and Parvinder Kaur Verma,Psychological Counsellors, Dr. Paramjit Singh, Professor, Law Dept., Punjabi University Patiala, Yashpaul Manvi, Assistant Director (Retd.), Pb. School Education Dept. and Harjit Singh, General Manager (Retd.), MNC & Psychological Counsellor were delivered lectures on Introduction to Psychoactive substance use : What are psychoactive substance, types of drugs and its impact, Signs and Symptoms of Substance abuse / Causes and Consequences of Substance abuse / Risk factors of drug abuse among adolescents, Myths and facts related to substance abuse / Basic counseling skills: Verbal Communication, Drug Resistance skills : Risk and protective factors, Legal aspects related to drug abuse in India, Life skills on assertiveness / peer pressure and problems solving and Life skills to protect students from substance misuse and addiction: Building Self Esteem and personal skills to the participants.

MGSIPA organized training for Teachers on Drug Abuse Prevention

Course Director Dr. RK Sharma delivered a detailed lecture on Basic Counselling skills: Non-verbal Communication and Role of teachers in prevention of drug abuse among students / improving school and class room environment. He stressed that teachers will do a lot in this training programme.

In the closing of training programme the Certificate of Participation were delivered to the participants and feedback was taken.
