Shiromni Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today urged the people to wake chief minister Capt Amrinder Singh from his deep slumber by defeating the Congress in the forthcoming parliamentary polls in order to force him to implement the promises made to the people.
Addressing a party meeting before interacting with party workers here, the SAD president said the Congress government had not made any effort to provide good governance in Punjab. “The only job it has done is to launch a witch hunt against the SAD leadership to divert attention from its poor performance as it has miserably failed to implement even a single promise made to the people”. He said every section of society, be it farmers, youth, dalits, government employees or traders were feeling betrayed by the Congress government.
Condemning the Congress government for playing fraud with the people of the state by not implementing any of its poll promises, Badal said Punjabis had decided to teach a befitting lesson to the Congress party in the forthcoming parliamentary elections. “ CM Captain Amrinder Singh does not dare to step out of Chandigarh, sensing that the people would question him about all of the promises he has brazenly backtracked from, including farm loan waiver, jobs to youth and social benefits to dalits and other under privileged sections of the society”. Badal said this time the Congress party should not waste time in preparing its election manifesto as everybody in Punjab knew that it was a habitual liar and did not keep its word.
Making a comparison between the Patiala constituency and the Bathinda constituency, the home turf of the Badal family in terms of development, Badal said apart from infrastructure development, Bathinda had been showered with a series of big projects including the Petroleum refinery, Central University, AIIMS and a new airport during the SAD-BJP tenure. “Contrary to this, Patiala has been in a state of neglect during Captain Amrinder Singh’s stint as CM as well as the present term of the last two years. No effort was made to bring even one big project or industry to the Patiala parliamentary constituency by the Raja’s family. He said Amarinder had also not deemed it fit to even visit Patiala and thank the people for electing him as a legislator.
Seeking people’s support for a strong PM, the SAD president urged the people to unite under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he had proved himself a strong and daring leader who could easily steer the nation out of any internal or external trouble. “India needs a decisive and bold PM like Modi at this crucial juncture when our neighboring country Pakistan is trying to foment trouble by its terror-sponsoring activities.
