PPCB donates Compostable Bags at Sri Damdama Sahib
Bathinda-The campaign of Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) promoting use of compostable and biodegradable plastic bags has reached from Takht Sri Akal Takht Sri Amritsar Sahib to Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Talwandi Sabo. The nature friendly bags are now available at Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Talwandi Sabo.
XEN PPCB Paramjit Singh stated that the chairman PPCB has started distribution of compostable bags (made of potato and corn starch) campaign from Sri Akal Takht Sahib on April 1, 2018 to replace use of plastic bags. In this series, the compostable bags are now made available at Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Talwandi Sabo too.
SDO PPCB Ruby Sidhu and her team conducted a meeting with the Executive Member of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Gurtej Singh Dhadde and manager Karan Singh in this context. During the meeting it was requested that compostable bags be replaced with plastic bags at all the Gurudwaras that fall in jurisdiction area of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib.
Gurtej Singh Dhadde stated that a list of required plastic bags has been sought from managements of all Gurudwara Sahibs that are running under Shiromani Committee so that these managements are given requisite bags in time. The PPCB team donated 5 kg of compostable bags at Takht Sri Damdama Sahib. Gurtej Singh Dhadde and manager Karan Singh appreciated the efforts of PPCB and appealed sangat to stop using plastic bags and instead go for compostable ones.
Meanwhile, the ADC Bathinda Sakshi Sawhney conducted meeting with the heads of managements of Gurudwara Sahibs lying within Bathinda city to stop usage of plastic bags and promote compostable ones. She appealed that the way plastic bags have been replaced with compostable ones at Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the same needs to be done at every Gurudwara. She said that this would help in creating better environment and sensitizing sangat on environmental issues.
