13th CUPB Foundation Day celebrations- students participated in various Competitions

The eight-day 13th Foundation Day celebrations of the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB), which began on February 21, 2022, continue to be the centre of attraction for students from India and abroad. In addition to cultural and academic events for university students, the celebrations include various events in which Indian and international students are participating, such as International Quiz Competitions, the National Birds Survey 2022, and the Foundation Day Lecture Series by eminent academicians.

In the first six days, total ten invited lectures by famous personalities were organized through online mode, under the Foundation Day Lecture Series, which were attended by students, researchers, and faculty from India and abroad. The distinguished speakers who delivered the first set of five lectures, organized from February 21–23, were Prof. Kuldip Chand Agnihotri (Advisor to the Minister, Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India), Prof. Girishwar Mishra (Former Vice Chancellor, Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya), Prof. Krishna N Ganesh (Director, IISER Tirupati), Prof. Alok Shrotriya (Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Amarkantak) and Prof. J. Gowrishankar (Director, IISER-Mohali). The second set of five lectures, conducted from February 24—26, were delivered by Dr. Bharat B. Kale (Director General, C-MET India), Prof. Paramjit Singh Judge (Former Professor, GNDU), Shri. Jayant Sahasrabudhe (National Organizing Secretary, Vijyana Bharati), Prof. Ranjana Aggarwal (Director, CSIR–NIScPR), Prof. Rajeev Ahuja (Director, IIT Ropar) and Prof. Y.K. Gupta (President, AIIMS, Jammu and Bhopal).

In addition, a total of four international quiz competitions were organized in this period as a part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ and ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ programme series, during which around 2700 participants registered from India and 23 foreign countries. The winners of first and second quiz competitions held on the theme of ‘Unsung Heroes of the Indian Freedom Struggle from Punjab’ and ‘Knowledge Traditions in Sapta Sindhu Region’ were Dr. Neha Nema (University of Delhi) and Mr. Arsh Kumar (CUPB student) respectively. At the same time, Kapil Garg (CUPB student) and Shantakar Mohanty (Cuttack) secured the first positions in the third and fourth quiz competitions held on the theme of ‘Sustainable Future’ and ‘Contribution of India in Science and Technology’.

Apart from this, citizens from all across India are participating in the National Bird Survey 2022 hosted by the University and have shared photographs of birds in their neighbourhood, including the rarest bird species such as Baillon’s crake, Brahminy starling (Sturnia pagodarum), Golden Oriole, Red Wattled Lapwing, White Bellied Sea Eagle, Grey-headed swamphen, Rain quill, black billed magpie, Little ringed plover, Black winged stilt, Grey-headed swamphen, hoopoe, jungle babble and drongo, white breasted kingfisher, red wattled lapwing, Brahmini myna, Common myna,Rufous tree-pie,sparrow,Indian Rock Chat etc.

During this celebrations, CUPB students actively participated in various competitive events, such as Rangoli Making, Best Out of Waste, Ad Mad Show, Documentary Making, Idea Hunt, Singing and Dance Competitions.

Tiwari, the Vice Chancellor, expressed his gratitude towards the invited speakers of the Foundation Day Lecture Series and congratulated the winners of competitive events.This eight-day celebration will culminate with a grand ceremony on the occasion of the 13th Foundation Day of the University on February 28, 2022.
