AIPEF welcomes Maharashtra’s stand against power distribution privatization

All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF ) welcomes the statement of Maharashtra’s State Minister for Power Prajakta Dada Tanpure that the government will not privatise government power sector companies in any way
and electricity distribution in none of the cities of Maharashtra will be privatized. He also opposes the  formation  of a separate company for electricity distribution to agriculture consumers, while addressing the mammoth gathering of power employees and engineers in Mumbai.

V K Gupta Spokesperson All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) said on Saturday that Maharashtra Discoms has to pay  outstanding dues of about 12000 crores to Adani Power  and the company  has asked for the franchisee of 16 high revenue income cities of Maharashtra. All the state power sector employees and engineers
are opposing this.Earlier efforts to privatize the power distribution  by way of franchisee has failed in
Nagpur, Aurangabad, and Jalgoan.

Shailendra Dubey Chairman AIPEF  said that the Federation is opposed to the draft  of Electricity (Amendment ) bill 2021 as the power sector employees and engineers,  who are the major stakeholders have never been consulted. on the draft.

The bill is yet to become  law even though privatisation proposals are  being processed  in union territories like Chandigarh, Dadra-Nagar Haveli,  Puducherry and Jammu & Kashmir.

Dubey further said that National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees  and Engineers (NCCOEEE)
will be holding a convention on March 19 at Chandigarh against privatisation of Chandigarh electricity department .

The employees from Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh will be participating in the convention.
