Asia’s largest marketing co-operative “Markfed” get its chairman

Faridkot MLA Kushaldeep Singh Kiki Dhillon today joined as chairman of Asia’s largest marketing co-operative (2013-2014) “Markfed”, in the presence of chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi, deputy chief minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, cabinet minister Gurkirat Singh Kotli, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring.
Dhillon, who was upset with Congress for not been inducted into the Cabinet. The government appointed him chairman of Markfed. His appointment is being seen as a strategy of the Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi-led government to counter former chief minister Capt. Amarinder Singh’s efforts.
Congratulating the newly elected Chairman, Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channy said that under Dhillon’s leadership, the Markfed will attain further heights.
Faridkot MLA Kushaldeep Singh Kiki Dhillon is also a member of the special committee set up by former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh, to give a roadmap for the implementation of pending poll promises and reaching out to people with achievements of the state government. The committee was headed by senior Congress leader Lal Singh and includes MLAs Surinder Kumar Dawar, Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal and Kushaldeep Dhillon, former CM’s political secretary Capt Sandeep Sandhu and military historian Mandeep Bawa.
Prominent among others who were present at the occasion included MLA Kuljit Singh Nagra, Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon’s Brother Jasonpreet Singh Dhillon, Member Punjab State Commission for NRIs Daljit Singh Sahota, Navdeep Singh Babbu Brar, Deepinder Singh Dhillon, Hardinder Pal Singh Harry Mann, Financial Commissioner Cooperation K. Siva Prasad, MD Punjab State Cooperative Bank Rajesh Dhiman and AMD Markfed Amit Talwar.

The Punjab State Co-op Supply & Marketing Federation Ltd. known as “Markfed” was registered in 1954. At the time of registration, it began with one bicycle, three employees, thirteen members and a capital of Rs.54,000/-, it has now achieved meteoritic volumes and has grown to become the largest marketing co-operative in Asia with an annual turnover of over Rs.11600 Crores during 2013-2014 with 1932 employees. Markfed operates through 20 District offices over 100 Branch offices in Mandi Towns and 9 processing and trading units.
The number of members societies has expanded to 3051 . Markfed has emerged as a very solid and stable organisation committed to the service of the farmer community of the State of Punjab. Markfed has been awarded National Productivity Awards in various fields like co-operative marketing activities, food processing, cattlefeed production etc., to name a few. Several innovative incentive schemes have been introduced for the benefit of the farmers and the member co-operative societies.
