BBMB chairman gets extension

The union ministry of Power has again extended the tenure of Tanmay Kumar, a 1993-batch IAS officer as the chairman of Bhakra beas management board ( BBMB) , for a period of three months or till the appointment of regular chairman of BBMB or till further orders, whichever is earlier.
The Centre on July 17, appointed Tanmay Kumar, a 1993-batch IAS officer as the chairman of BBMB. Kumar is posted in the Union power ministry at joint secretary (Hydro). The appointment was challenged by Gulab Singh Narwal, former BBMB member (irrigation). Narwal was the senior-most member of the board, at the time former chairman completed his term.
BBMB is headed by a Whole Time Chairman and two Whole Time Members i.e. Member (Irrigation) and Member (Power) who head the Irrigation and Power Wings of BBMB respectively. Member Irrigation is represented by a Haryana cadre and Member Power is represented by a Punjab cadre officer.
