BJP stage protest against power cuts in Rupnagar

Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) workers led by Rupnagar district unit president Jatinder Singh Athwal staged a dharna and held a demonstration  outside the deputy commissioner  office at Rupnagar to protest against the long duration power cuts imposed in Punjab..

On the occasion, Athwal said that during the BJP coalition government, Punjab had surplus power and Punjab used to supply power to other state.  Ever since the Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) government was formed in Punjab, the people of Punjab have been looking at Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in the pictures published in the newspapers only.

He said that  Bhagwant Mann, who had promised 24 hours uninterrupted power supply to the people of Punjab and 300 units of free electricity per month to every household before the elections, has failed to provide electricity to the people even on payment of  money.

He said that there are 12 to 14 hour long power cuts in cities and villages of the state.. Hot weather has made life miserable for the people due to power cuts.

BJP stage protest against power cuts in Rupnagar. Athwal said that the farmers have started protesting against the Bhagwant Mann government of Punjab outside the power minister’s house and by blocking the roads demanding power supply.

Athwal said that if the power cuts in Punjab continue in this manner then the promise of providing 600 units free of cost would not be implement till next Diwali.

Athwal said that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had said before the elections that if Aam Aadmi Party government was formed in Punjab then no farmer in Punjab would commit suicide after April 1. But it has been more than a month and a half since the Aam Aadmi Party formed government in Punjab, 14 farmers have committed suicide in different districts of Punjab. But none of the leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has even asked for compensation to the families of these farmers, let alone the compensation.

Former MLA Shamsher Singh Rai, Parvesh Goyal,Jagdish Kajla,Darshan Singh Shivjot,Sarpanch Manohal Lal  also spoke on the occasion.
