Cancer awareness week started at AIIMS Bathinda

All India Institute of Medical Sciences, (AIIMS) Bathinda inaugurated the cancer awareness week with great zeal and enthusiasm on February 1, 2020. It is a 6-day program, led by the Departments of Radiation Oncology, Community and Family Medicine and Surgical Oncology. At the inauguration, the theme of the year 2021 was unveiled by the worthy Director of AIIMS, Bathinda, Professor Dr. DK Singh and Dean cum Medical Superintendent Professor Dr Satish Gupta.

Dr Sapna Marcus Bhatty welcomed the dignitaries and briefed audience about 6-day program of cancer awareness week. Thereafter, Dr Satish Gupta sensitized the students about the cancer burden and motivated students about their role in preventing and curing cancers as future doctors. He emphasized the need for collaborative efforts from domestic, social and medical fronts.

Emphasizing on adopting a holistic approach, the Director, AIIMS Bathinda, Prof Dr. DK Singh advised students to be sympathetic in providing care to cancer patients and importance of counselling to family members. He further deliberated that preservation of our environment is critically essential in attaining sustainable developmental goals. The session was concluded with a presentation by Dr Rohit Mahajan on etiologies and preventive aspects of Head and Neck Cancer.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Ankita Kankaria, Dr Rohit Mahajan, Dr. Bhola Nath, Dr Ramnika Aggarwal and Dr Nikhil Garg.
