Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib organized a webinar on “Care for Elderly during lockdown”. During this period of global pandemic COVID-19, when people all over the world are locked in their houses, the elderly are specifically more affected due to reduction in their physical activity. To address this important issue of elderly care during lockdown, Department of Physiotherapy, Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib came forward for the support of elderly. In this webinar, our esteemed panelist was Sardarni Man Kaur, the veteran athlete who along with her coach (son) Sardar Gurdev Singh, joined the meeting. She motivated the people to be physically active in their lives and to have balanced diet for healthy life with longevity. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Prit Pal Singh presided over the Webinar. He thanked Sardarni Man Kaur for being a part of the event and providing an extraordinary inspiration to the society, particularly elders, during present times. He said that it is our moral duty to make all out efforts to provide emotional support to our elders to keep them in high spirit during this crucial period.

Dr. Pankajpreet Singh, Incharge, Department of Physiotherapy was the resource person and Dr. Supreet Bindra, Assistant Professor was the event coordinator. Dr. Shruti Aggarwal, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science provided excellent technical support for organization of this successful event. Dr. Singh, a successful physiotherapist, shared his brilliant ideas about the care of elderly during this period of lockdown, with all the technical details. He shared that how relatively non-ambulatory phase of lockdown has led to aggravation of age related complications like reduced bodily movement and increased psychological stress. He provided excellent solutions for the same during his presentation. The webinar was attended by thousands of people throughout the globe as the event was also streamed live on the Facebook and University website (www.sggswu.edu.in) simultaneously for wider coverage. The entire proceedings of the event are also available on Youtube for the benefit of one and all.
