Celebrating India-Israel diplomatic relationship TIET signs MoU with Tel Aviv University, Israel

Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala and Israel’s leading Tel Aviv University have agreed to jointly build a collaborative research centre: the Thapar-Tel Aviv University Center of Excellence in Advanced Manufacturing.

Prof Prakash Gopalan Director TIET signed a five-year Memorandum of Agreement with Prof Millette Shamir, Vice-President (Global) of the Tel-Aviv based Tel-Aviv University in the presence of R RVederah, Chairman Board of Governors of Thapar.

Tel Aviv University and senior officials visited Patiala on April 3-4 to formalize the agreement that both parties said had been in discussion for the last two years. Thapar Institute has committed to establish a Chair Professorship who will lead the Centre. Prof Noam Eliaz, the founder of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at TAU will serve as the inaugural Chair Professor, a position designed to lead the activities of the Centre.

The Centre will draw multidisciplinary Thapar and TAU research teams  with expertise from all fields of engineering and sciences. The centre’s projects will be designed to generate engineering solutions for application oriented contemporary research problems that will cover a wide range of disciplines to engage faculty and research scholars.

The Chair Professor will provide leadership in the development of a vibrant research infrastructure at both TIET and TAU and establish a high profile, internationally leading inter-institutional research group under the overarching themes of “Advanced Manufacturing,” building on the expertise at TAU and TIET in the related areas.

This year India-Israel is celebrating 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
