Centre for E-learning and Teaching Excellence, Punjabi University Patiala organized a webinar on “Digital Initiatives for the Transformation of Rural Punjab” under its Leader’s Speak initiative. The officials of Punjab Mandi Board,  Harsuhinderpal Singh Brar PCS and Dr. Nitin Bansal Programmer, were the key speakers in this programme. Vice Chancellor Prof Arvind, during his inaugural address, expressed his happiness about making public in general and farmers in particular aware about the benefits of digitization initiatives for rural Punjab. He congratulated Harsuhinderpal Singh Brar and Dr. Bansal for their keen efforts for implementing e-Governance in  Punjab.

Brar is known for his keen efforts and hard work in establishing e-Governance in Government of Punjab. As a Joint Secretary in Punjab Mandi Board, he has helped the government with this unique initiative i.e. E-Procurement (procurement by invitation) during COVID-19 in 2020. Before this, his team has successfully established an online license management system for the arhityas, where they can both apply as well as renew online, without visiting the office. Further Mr. Brar gave a detailed account of  the development of various IT projects in their department like Integrated Management System (IMS), mobile app for Punjab Mandi Board, Quick audio/ video calling app, e-Auction portal, Digital J-Form for farmer community, Online HRMS and many more.

Brar shared that these digital initiatives will not only reduce manpower and logistics cost but will also help in bringing more transparency and efficiency in operations, facilitate stakeholders via e-license, e-pass, payments via dedicated gateways etc. Moreover, reduction in licensing registration timeframe will be from 1.5 months to 1 week. He focused on their unique Integrated Management System (IMS) through which the users can access the single version of truth.

Dr Nitin Bansal, Programmer, Punjab Mandi Board also talked in detail about the working of these IT projects. Their team has implemented various unique IT initiatives for the betterment of rural Punjab under the esteemed guidance of their officers.

Centre for E-learning and Teaching Excellence, Punjabi University organised Webinar and Dr. B S Sandhu, Dean Academic Affairs presented concluding remarks for the event. Dr. G S Batra, Director, Centre for E-Learning and Teaching Excellence, presented welcome note.  Prof. Vishal Goyal, Deputy Director, CELTE and Dr. Gurpreet Singh Josan coordinated the entire proceedings of the entire event. The event ended with presentation of vote of thanks by Dr. Vikas Deep.
