Chrysanthemum Show Concludes at PAU Ludhiana

The three-day Chrysanthemum Show concluded at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today. The show, jointly organized by the Department of Floriculture and Landscaping and the Estate Organization of PAU, witnessed a huge response from the flower lovers and growers. A competition among 12 different classes of standard (Japanese) and spray (Korean) chrysanthemum was also held during the show.

In his concluding remarks, Dr Ashok Kumar, Director of Extension Education, PAU, who was the chief guest, highlighted the role of PAU in the development of agriculture and in diversification through horticulture. He observed that the demand for flowers was very high in the cities, particularly, during the festival seasons. The growers can adopt floriculture as a profitable venture, he advised. While giving away the prizes, Dr Kumar congratulated the winners and encouraged them to adopt flower cultivation at commercial level by taking guidance from the experts of Department of Floriculture and Landscaping.

Dr H.S. Grewal, Head of the department, informed about the new Certificate Course in Floriculture and Landscaping, started for the skill development of the youth for entrepreneurship development. He called upon the visitors to participate in the Annual Flower Show, slated for February 2017. Later, he proposed the vote of thanks.

In in-curved category, Jagdish Parshad Maurya and Ishika Khanna of Vikas Nagar and Yuvraj Khanna won first, second and third prize, respectively. Rajan Rajpal of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Model Town, got second prize in re-flexed category. In intermediate category, Lekh Raj and Minakshi of Delhi Public School won first and second prize, respectively, while Ram Abhilav of Guru Nanak Public School got third prize. In spider category, Verka Milk Plant, Ludhiana, bagged second prize and Patti Ram of Guru Nanak Public School got third prize. In quelled category, Gurpriya Kaur of Maya Nagar, Ram Lal of Delhi Public School, Ayali and Mohinder Pal Singh of Maya Nagar won first, second and third prize, respectively. Ravi of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Model Town; Patti Ram of Guru Nanak Public School, Sarabha Nagar and Rajan Rajpal of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Model Town, bagged first, second and third prize, respectively, in single/semi double Korean category.  Rishi Khanna of Vikas Nagar, Subhash of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Model Town and Patti Ram of Guru Nanak Public School, Sarabha Nagar, got first, second and third prize, respectively, in pompon/button category. The DAV Public School, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, won first and second prize in Anemone category. Davinder Nagi of Guru Nanak Public School, Birmi and Akshi Khanna, Vikas Nagar got first and second prize in spoon category. Charandeep Singh of Sarabha Nagar and Mohinder Singh of Maya Nagar won first prize in arrangement of pots category. Mohinder Pal Singh of Maya Nagar, Ram Lal and Ruby of Delhi Public School, Ayali, bagged first, second and third prize in specially trained chrysanthemum plants.
