On a call for statewide strike given by Joint Punjab Government Doctors Coordination Committee, the government doctors in Patiala observed one day complete strike on Monday (June 28) in protest against the Pay Commission report which has led to a drastic cut in their salaries instead of any extra benefits for Covid pandemic duties.
Medical dental teachers and resident PCMS doctors in Government Medical and Dental college Patiala organised a protest rally in medical college campus and raised slogans against the Pay Commission and the Punjab Government.
Outdoor and operation theatre services along with teaching of medical students remained suspended for the day except emergency, Covid and indoor medical services.
According to Dr. Darshanjit Singh Walia, state representative of the coordination committee, it has also been decided to intensify the agitation till our demands are accepted.
According to Dr DS Bhullar, state General Secretary of Punjab State Medical and Dental Teachers Association, the state government is directly responsible for jeopardising the health services in the state and some anti-doctors lobby is misguiding the state government on NPA issue relating to the government doctors and resulting unrest in them.
