Declining reading habits is cause of serious concern: Prof. Balwinder Singh

“Declining reading habits amongst the younger generations of today must be a cause of serious concern for all the stakeholders, be it, the society at large, the parents as well as the teachers” said Prof Balwinder Singh, Prof Incharge (finance & development), Director, Centre for Data Analytics and Research and Professor, University School of Financial Studies of the University, while delivering the inaugural address on the three Week Orientation Programme 108. The programme is being organized by the Human Resource Development Centre. About 23 teachers pertaining to higher education from Punjab & the other neighbouring states are participating.
Attributing this malice to the advancements in the domain of Information Technology, he emphasized to re-inculcate the habit of reading as it serves as food for soul, just like, the food for physical body. Blind commodification, commercialization of education is also one of the decisive factors, which, is leading to falling standard of education in the country, he further added. Exhorting the audience not to be the slaves of technology, he concluded that on the contrary, the technology should be optimally utilized to derive maximum benefits.
Prof Adarsh Pal Vig, Director, counselled the participants to make a virtue out of the necessity & to attend such Programme not only for the furtherance of their professional careers, but also to augment their existing expertise and competence. He also apprised the participants with the accomplishments of the university in its short span of 50 years. Talking about the enormous contribution of the centre in the realms of higher education in the country, he lauded the yeoman’s service put in by the previous Directors & their teams under their capable tutelage. Earlier Prof Balwinder Singh was presented a sapling by Prof Adarsh Pal Vig & Dr. Mohan Kumar.
