Decorated officer replaces controversial officer as superintendent central jail Patiala

Punjab jails department has issued the transfer orders of six jail officers.
In a recent orders issued by VK Janjua, special principal secretary, Punjab government, six Punjab jails department officers has been transferred.
On March 26,2022 Punjab government had transferred Shivraj Singh superintendent central jail Patiala and posted Sucha Singh as the new superintendent central jail Patiala.
Sucha Singh posting as superintendent central jail Patiala created controversy as he is alleged to be close to the Badal’s and Bikamjit Singh Majithia, brother-in-law of Sukhbir Singh Badal has been lodged at central jail Patiala.
Within seven weeks of Sucha Singh posting as superintendent central jail Patiala, he got into another controversy for allegedly thrashing a home guards volunteer on the jail premises, just two three days ago.
The FIR was registered after a delegation of home guards officials met Patiala senior superintendent of police (SSP) Deepak Pareek, alleging that home guards volunteer Gurpreet Singh, who was on duty in the jail, was beaten up by central jail superintendent Sucha Singh.
Taking note of jail superintendent’s “unruly” behaviour, additional chief secretary (jails) VK Januja,IAS transferred him to the head office.
Last week, the jail superintendent, allegedly tortured an inmate who was later rushed to the Rajindra Hospital for treatment.
Now, the Punjab jails department has posted Manjit Singh Tiwana, Open Jail Nabha jail superintendent, who has been awarded President’s Correctional Service Medal for Distinguished Service, on this Republic Day, as the new Central Jail Superintendent, Patiala.
