Around 37,200 wheat bags are now found to be missing from a PUNGRAIN godown at Patran in Patiala district. With each bag carrying 50 kg wheat, quintals of food grain has this been stolen.

 

The PUNGRAIN district manager Ravinder kaur has lodged an official complaint with the police and Patran police has booked Manjit Singh-food and supply officer, Patran, Manoj Mittal, inspector incharge food and supply department, Patran Harsh Singla, inspector, incharge food and supply department, Patran centre, Talwinder Singh Bedi, inspector, incharge food and supply department, Patran under section 409 (Criminal breach of trust by public servant, or by banker, merchant or agent), 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 120-B (Punishment of criminal conspiracy) IPC.

When contacted district manager Ravinder kaur, she said “on a secret information, the department got checked the stock and found the wheat bags, bales (gattan) missing from the godown. The department has noticed the siphoning off the bags by its own custodians (department officials) and decided to register an FIR against the accused. We are now investigating the matter. No arrest has been made so far.”

As per available in information, the department has checked its 12 godowns at Ghagga and Patran and found 37,200 bags of wheat and around 590 bales. The value of missing food items is in crores.
