Fun based activities for students initiated during summer vacations in govt schools

The Punjab government has announced summer vacations for schools from May 24 to June 23. The cabinet minister said that due to Covid-19 pandemic, the educational institutions were already closed for students and now for a period of one month, schools will remain closed for teachers and other staff.
Now, the state government is organising online summer camps for government school students, through online mode, to keep the students engaged and keep them indoor.
In a letter issued to all the Principals of government schools of Punjab, the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), gave instructions to make summer vacation useful.
In these camps, the emphasis is being laid on English and social studies subjects. The activities of various subjects have been listed under the project ‘Padho Punjab Padaho Punjab’ by the State Council of Education Research and Training. Moreover ‘Padho Punjab Padaho Punjab’ team will also assist the teachers, students in fun based activities, during this summer camp.
Different types of activities were suggested for classes 6th-8th and 9th-10th in English, Maths, Social Science, Computer, Punjabi, Hindi, Science.
A total of 13 activities had been suggested for English subject, including “handwriting, public speaking, show and tell, storytelling, poem recitation, newspaper/ book review and scrap book preparation. For mathematics ,students have been asked to note the minimum and maximum temperature from newspapers or TV, to collect different shape objects and paste them in a scrapbook.Under social studies, students have been asked to prepare a map of school/village/home, to make scrapbooks from different types of soils, to collect scrapbooks by collecting pictures of historical buildings and patriots.
As per the instructions, by SCERT, the teachers must upload the videos, photos of these activities in what’sapp groups. The ‘Padho Punjab Padaho Punjab’ team will share these videos, photos on social media platforms.
