Gardener living in PPSC secretary residence tests positive for Covid in Patiala; area a high profile zone

A 32 year old gardener, who is said to be working at an official residence of a PCS (Executive) officer, has tested positive for Covid 19.

The gardener, who had been staying in the servant house along with his family in the officer’s residence, has been shifted to the isolation ward of the Government Rajindra Hospital in Patiala on yesterday night itself.

As per the sources, the said PCS officer is posted as Secretary Punjab Public Service Commission, at its head office in Patiala and the government has allotted her a bungalow number 1-D at Passey Road, Patiala. When enquired about the sampling of the officer, in whose house the gardener is living  from Patiala civil surgeon Dr Harish Malhotra , he said ” the officer is not residing in the bungalow for the past 10-15 days and we will adopt all the procedure as per ICMR guide lines”

The district administration along with health department came immediately into action as the area is a high profile zone where officers are residing in large numbers. Maximum number of officers lives within 500 meters from the residence where this positive case is detected.

The health department has also taken samples of his wife and children. The department is taking every precaution as, as per sources he has been working at the residences of other officers as well and his brother, who is a cook at the house of a famous doctor couple in Patiala, is also being quarantined and his samples have been collected. The health officials are planning to collect the samples as well, who were in touch with him

 

Civil Surgeon Dr Harish Malhotra said Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) were pressed into service as soon as the lab reports came in on Friday evening. Malhotra said, “We are trying to figure out from where the gardener have got infected, as he has no travel history. The teams have already started working.
