GNDU Convocation-Raja Randhir Singh, Dr. Gurtej Singh  honoured with Honoris Causa degrees

Minister of Higher Education, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa said today, the society is facing big challenges, includes water scarcity, environment, drug addiction and mobile misuse. Any education institution plays an important role in the creation of a prosperous Society. Receiving a degree should not be confined to getting jobs only, but should also prepare him to be good citizen sensitive to need of the society. He was here to deliver Convocation address at the occasion of Golden Jubilee Year Convocation of the Guru Nanak Dev University.

On this occasion, two eminent personalities Raja Randhir Singh, Lifetime Vice-President of Olympic Council of  Asia  and Dr. Gurtej Singh Sandhu, Senior Fellow and Vice President, Micron Technology, Inc. USA  was honoured with Honoris Causa degrees in recognition of their contribution in their respective fields. Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jaspal Singh Sandhu welcomed the chief guest and other dignitaries. Besides the Cabinet Ministers, Gurmeet Singh Sodhi; Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria; Member Parliament Gurjit Singh Aujla; MLA’s Dr. Rajkumar Verka and Sunil Datti, Dr. Dharmveer Agnihotri, Dinesh Bassi, Chairman Improvement Trust, a large number of prominent personalities were present.

Prof. Karanjit Singh Kahlon, Registrar of the University coordinated the convocation. Vice-Chancellor also honoured chief guest and other guests with a memento on behalf of the University. Prof. S.S. Behl, Dean, Academic Affairs presented the vote of thanks. A large number of eminent personalities, members of Senate and Syndicate of the University, Deans of the Faculties, Faculty Members, graduating students were present. As many as 173 Gold Medals, 15 Memorial Medals, Shri Sham Sunder Memorial Trophy, 179 Ph.D., 21 M. Phil, 256 Master and 256 Bachelor Degrees were awarded to students from various faculties

Congratulating the graduates, researchers and award & medal winners for their academic achievements, Bajwa said that this university, which was established on the Guru Nanak Dev’s 500th Prakash Purab in 1969, is now going to celebrate its  Golden Jubilee on the occasion of Guru Ji’s 550th birth anniversary. Expressing his devotion to Guru Nanak Dev, he said that the purpose of establishment of this University was to spread teachings of Guru Nanak Dev ji and it is a matter of great pride that this University is fulfilling it duty honestly to meet those objectives. Today, this University due to its hard work is among the one of the top Universities of the Country.

Prof. Sandhu appraised chief guest and others about the activities and achievement of the University in the field of academics, research, culture and sports. A special picturesque book about Historical city Amritsar and Guru Nanak Dev University entitled  “The contours of inheritence” was also released by Minister and others at this ocassion.

Raja Randhir Singh and Dr. Gurtej Singh Sandhu also shared their experiences of life with the students. On this occasion, Sardar Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa also performed the digital inauguration of University Institute of Technology and UGC Faculty Development Centre. The Foundation Stones of Guru Nanak Dev Golden Jubilee Convention Centre, School of Education and  Faculty of Agriculture Building were laid by the Chief Guest.  Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu also honoured Bajwa, Raja Randhir Singh and Dr. Gurtej Singh Sandhu with mementoes on the behalf of the University.
