GNDU Syndicate approve cycles & e-rickshaws in campus

Amritsar – The Syndicate meeting of the Guru Nanak Dev University was held here today in the Syndicate Room of the University. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu presided over the meeting while Registrar Prof. K.S. Kahlon presented the agenda. Prof. Kamaljit Singh, Dean Academic Affairs and syndics were present to discuss various issues.

To reduce vehicular traffic in the campus, cycles & e-rickshaws will be introduced as the mode of transport which will help in reducing the pollution level. Syndicate also approved to establish an independent Department of Agriculture from the next academic year 2019-20 under the faculty of Agriculture. On the pattern of International Universities, Syndicate approved to open Souvenir Shop in the Facilitation Centre of the University in which T-Shirts, Hand Bags, Tea Mugs and other stationary items with University logo will be available.

Appointment of OSD instead of the principals in the University and Constituent colleges,  B.Tech. Admission to the second year through lateral entry in courses, change the name of Kalanaur College to Guru Nanak Dev University College, Kalanor has been approved. Apart from this, 54 Ph.Ds degrees were also approved.

As per the modified reservation criteria of Govt. of Punjab, the reservation percentage for sportspersons was reduced to 1 percent, Guru Nanak Dev University, a major sporting University which has won MAKA trophy 22 times and has contributed substantially to International sports with creation of numerous medalists in International events, maintaining the sporting culture, Syndicate meeting approved two supernumerary seats for sportspersons in each course conducted by the University. The number of seats for sportspersons for the next academic session tends to be almost double.

Before the Syndicate meeting, Vice Chancellor Prof. Sandhu, Prof. Kamaljeet Singh and Prof. Kahlon, MLA Tarsem Singh DC, Harminder Singh Gill and Prof. S.S. Johal and other syndicate members welcomed an eminent member of Syndicate, Cabinet Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa. Prof. Sandhu thanked the syndics and exhorted all to play pro-active role in further progress of the University.
