GNDU wins prestigious MAKA Trophy for 23rd time

After a gap of six years, the Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) of  Amritsar has clinched the prestigious Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy for 2017-18. Repeating the history, GNDU has made claims over the MAKA trophy for the 23rd time.

A delegation led by Vice Chancellor, Dr Jaspal Singh Sandhu will receive the trophy from President of India at Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi on September 25. The Vice Chancellor will be joined by registrar Dr Karanjeet Singh Kahlon, Director, Sports Dr Sukhdev Singh and assistant director Dr Kanwar Mandeep Singh Dhillon.

GNDU wins prestigious MAKA Trophy for 23rd time

Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu informed that various universities from all over the country participated in the various sports competition and the overall winner is awarded with the MAKA trophy. It is due to the determination and hard work of our sports-person, coaches and the sports staff that we have been successful in getting this trophy number of times.

Sandhu said that the Guru Nanak Dev University has scored 107745 points and won the MAKA trophy while Punjabi University, Patiala with a total of 88840 points stood second and Panjab University, Chandigarh managed to gain third place with 71712 points. It is proud moment for our students and faculty that we re-claimed MAKA Trophy, he added.

The MAKA trophy was established in 1956-57 and it is given annually to the University with best all round performance in sports. The winner is honored with a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh and trophy.

The MDU, Rohtak of Haryana stood fourth with 29025 points, Kurukshetra University on fifth position with 21840 points followed by Mangalore University with 10825 points and University of Calcutta with 3450 points.
