The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Bibi Jagir Kaur while talking about the old building structures found during the construction work of the jora ghar (shoe house) near secretariat Sri Akal Takht Sahib at Sri Darbar Sahib, said on Friday that if these structures are found related to history and heritage then they will surely be preserved.

Bibi Jagir Kaur said excavations at the upcoming jora ghar site in the past few days have revealed some antique looking rooms-like structures which are made of small (Nanakshahi) bricks. “The opinion of experts on its antiquity and historicity is being sought. The SGPC has discussed the matter with experts from Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) and is seeking the services of other experts and historians. The deputy commissioner (DC) of Amritsar has also been asked to look into the matter through the Archaeological Survey of India”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur. SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur, “Some people were deliberately making an issue about the structure of the building which came to light during the Kar Sewa. SGPC is providing services to the Sangat (devotees) arriving at Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib.

It is the duty of the SGPC to work for the convenience of the Sangat as per the requirements of the time. Under this, a jora ghar is also being constructed and if any old building is seen during the Kar Sewa, it is not intended that it will be demolished. I appeal to the Sangat to beware of misleading propaganda.”
