Internationally acclaimed 5 Punjab Police DSP’s not considered for Promotion

In a Departmental Screening Committee (DSC) meeting held on 28 Dec 2018, Five (5) Punjab Police DSP’s who were internationally acclaimed players were not promoted to their next level SP rank promotions.

In an order issued by Nirmaljeet Singh Kalsi, Additional chief secretary Homes, Punjab Govt vide Endst No 1/ 4/2019-3HI/ 495 dated 5-3-2019, read that these 5 DSP’s were not promoted as they are not eligible for promotions.

The department gave a reason to DSP Avneet Kaur Sidhu , Arjuna Award – 2007, an Indian shooter who won the gold medal in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle at the 2006 Commonwealth Games along with many national and international award  that “DSC not considered the name of this officer as she has not completed her Commando and Phase-II training is still pending “

For DSP Ronjan Sodhi, the Arjuna Awardee and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna awardee, an Indian Double trap shooter, who won two silver medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and a gold medal at the 2010 Asian Games, became first Indian to successfully defend a World Cup title in 2011, the department said that “his two year basic training is still pending”

For DSP  Manavjit Singh Sandhu , Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Awardee in 2006 and Arjuna Awardee in 1998, an Indian sport shooter who specializes in trap shooting, 3 time Olympian, the department gave a reason “his two year basic training is still pending”

For DSP Gurbaj Singh, midfielder, he was part of the Indian hockey team which won medals in both the 2010 Asian and Commonwealth Games, part of the victorious 2014 Asian Games team and also won a medal in the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games,  the department gave a reason that “ he has not completed his Distt Practical Training and Phase II training is still pending”

For DSP Harveen Sarao, won team bronze in the 10m air pistol event in the Asian Championship the department mentioned that “she has not completed his Distt Practical Training and Phase II training is still pending”

Meanwhile 38 DSP’s were given the charge of Superintendent of Police (SP), 6 DSP’s promotions were kept aside due to departmental enquiries along with other orders.
