JGND Punjab State Open University celebrated its maiden International Yoga Day

School of Education and Vocation of Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, Patiala, the newly established State open university of Punjab, dedicated 21st June to the celebration of International Yoga day by organising a webinar on “Yoga for Well-being and Blissful Life” under the dynamic leadership and guidance of the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Karamjeet Singh.

Owing to the manifold benefits of practicing yoga, he said that events like the webinars go a long way in spreading awareness among the public especially the youth about the salubrious effects of yoga. Reiterating the significance of yoga, he emphasized its role during the tough times when the society is still recovering from the impact of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic and its aftermath.

Referring to the upsurge in psychosomatic illnesses during the current times, Brahm Kumari  Anita Didi talked in detail of the  significant role that yoga plays in promoting health in a holistic manner by improving physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. She further added that a synthesis of yoga, meditation and mindfulness has therapeutic impact on the yoga enthusiasts as it helps in discovering the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature.

Dr. Rajeev Mishra, an eminent yoga practitioner from Gujarat shared with the audience the curative powers that different poses of yoga hold to alleviate chronic health and mental ailments like insomnia, diabetes, anxiety and depression etc.  He showcased some important yet easy yoga techniques which can help in enhancing the immunity and help people lead a healthier lifestyle.

Highlighting the attention that yoga has been receiving from every nook and corner of the world, Prof. Nandita Singh, Department of Education, Panjab University, Chandigarh said that Yoga is a precious gift of India’s ancient tradition to the world which signifies unity of mind and body; individual being with the cosmic self; thought and action. It should be practised by every individual irrespective of their age and gender along with the chanting of Om in order to lead a peaceful and calm life.

JGND Punjab State Open University celebrated its maiden International Yoga Day.The webinar was attended by many participants across India. The event was coordinated by Dr. Gurleen Ahluwalia and the vote of thanks was given by Dr. Dharam Singh Sandhu, Registrar, PSOU.
