Knee patients,Ojas docs perform bhangra on New Year Eve

As many as 40 elderly people who underwent knee replacement surgery took part in ‘my new knee, my new life’ event at a hotel here on Saturday night. The event was organized by Ojas super-specialty hospital to mark New Year Eve and to make awareness that after knee replacement surgery, one could lead normal life by performing his or her all routine functions.

During occasion these knee patients well supported by their counterparts performed ‘bhangra’ and danced to the peppy Punjabi songs along with their surgeon Dr. Suresh Singla and others docs from Ojas. Some also belted out old classic songs from Bollywood.

The event also marked competitions for best dressed couple, best motivated patient and best dancing couple.

Kartar Syal (63) and his wife were declared best dressed couple. Om Prakash (76) was adjusted best motivated patient whereas Jagmohan Aggarwal (53) along with his spouse got best dancing couple award.

During occasion, the patients also shared their experiences on knee replacement.

They said that it was a new lease of life for them as now they can perform routine functions without depending on others.

According to a participant in event his  life was completely changed after knee replacement surgery as he could now perform all routine works that were not possible before surgery.

Before knee surgery it was even hard to move with ease and see now I can dance with full my heart out to latest Punjabi tunes, remarked a 65-yr who underwent knee surgery 6-month back.

For us, our new replaced knee is our new life with which we can live with exuberance and enjoyment of life which were gone after our knee started to cause trouble, quipped anther who underwent knee surgery just 3-month back.

Dr. Suresh Singla who is a director of orthopedics & joint replacement at Ojas said that if your knee is severely damaged by arthritis or injury, it may be hard for you to perform simple activities like walking or climbing stairs. More than 90% of people who have total knee replacement surgery experience a dramatic reduction of knee pain and a significant improvement in the ability to perform common activities of daily living, he maintained.
