Mahavir Jayanti-DC ban sale of meat on March 29

Bathinda-The Bathinda district administration has ordered the banning the sale and consumption of chicken, mutton and eggs on Mahavir Jayanti on March 29.

As per District Magistrate Diprava Lakra order, promulgated under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), meat shops will remain closed and hotels, dhabas and clubs will not serve non-vegetarian items on March 29, in Bathinda district, as the Mahavir Jayanti celebrated by Jain’s is a day of non-violence.

“Killing animals on this day can hurt religious sentiments of a particular community and unscrupulous elements can take advantage of this,” reads the order.
