MC election violence; Patiala police lodges FIR; repolling ordered

The State Election Commission, Punjab (SEC) today ordered to conduct repoll in 3 polling booths of Municipal Council Patran and Samana of Patiala District. Repolling would be held on February 16, 2021.

Apprising this here today, an official spokesperson of SEC said that the Commission has received reports from Returning Officers (RO) Patran that some miscreants allegedly damaged the EVM in polling booth no. 11 of ward no. 8. Similarly, Commission had also got reports from RO Samana that unknown persons allegedly damaged EVM in polling booth no. 22 and 23 of ward no. 11.

Spokesperson further said that taking serious note of these incidents, the Commission has announced nullify the earlier polling conducted in these booths and ordered to re-poll under Section 59 (2)(A) of Punjab State Election Commission Act, 1994.

Spokesperson further said that re-poll in these 3 booths will be held on February 16, 2021 from 08.00 am to 04.00 pm and counting will take place on February 17, 2021.

Yesterday, Patiala police lodges a FIR at Samana police station, on the complaint of returning officer cum SDM against unknown persons, under section 171-F (undue influence or personation at an elec­tion), 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) , 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions.), 427 (Mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) IPC & Sec 117 (security and cost), 122, 123 (corrupt practices) Representation of People Act 1951 and 1988 .

Similarly, two FIR were lodged at Patran police station on the complaint of Yashpal, presiding officer booth number 11 and SI Darshan Singh of police station Ghagga, under section 353, 186 IPC & Sec 117, 123, 123 Representation of People Act 1951 and 1988  and 353, 186, 148 ( Rioting, armed with deadly weapon),149 (unlawful assembly for the crime committed by any member of the assembly in furtherance of the common object and makes them liable for the same punishment) ,188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant)IPC respectively.
