The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah in a tweet has said that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has asked for a report from the Punjab Government on the security breach during the Prime Minister,  Narendra Modi’s visit to Punjab today.

In his tweet, the Union Home Minister said, “The Ministry of Home Affairs has sought a detailed report on today’s security breach in Punjab. Such dereliction of security procedure in the Prime Minister’s visit is totally unacceptable and accountability will be fixed.”

Whereas ministry of home affairs has constituted a three members committee. In a communiqué MHA said “Ministry of Home Affairs(MHA) has constituted a committee to enquire into the serious lapses in the security arrangements during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Ferozepur, Punjab on 05.01.2022,which led to the exposure of the VVIP to grave security risk. The three-member committee will be led by Sudhir Kumar Saxena, Secretary (Security), Cabinet Secretariat and comprising of Balbir Singh, Joint Director, IB and S. Suresh, IG, SPG. The committee is advised to submit the report at the earliest.”

The Prime Minister today called on President Ram Nath Kovind and apprised him of the situation on Wednesday. The President and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu were furious over the incident, demanding strict action against the officials involved in the incident.

MHA constituted three members committee; demanded report from Punjab govt. Earlier in the day Punjab government has also constituted a high level committee in order to carry out a thorough probe into the lapses that occurred during Prime Minister’s visit to Ferozepur yesterday. An official spokesperson said that the Committee would comprise Justice (Retd.) Mehtab Singh Gill and Principal Secretary, Home Affairs and Justice department Anurag Verma IAS. The Committee shall submit its report within three days, added the spokesperson.
