Mission Tandarust Pb-Factory dumping chemicals in borewell unearthed

| On a tip off a joint operation by Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) along with food and drug administration and district police have unearthed a chemical and acid factory MR chemical sales corporation in Ghalauri Gate,Patiala. Today officials of Drug controller department did a survey of the factory. The team recovered huge cache of chemical including hydrochloric acid, nitric acid and sulphuric acid from a factory named MR chemical sales corporation. The chemicals are made and sold to different categories of client. They also used to sale mixture of chemicals, which were used directly into the borewells to clear pipes and increase water withdrawal from borewell.  Kahan Singh Pannu, commissioner, food and drug administration, said their department got tip-off about such activity in which the factory owner was selling mixture of chemicals to farmers and ordered the officials of Agriculture, District administration, food and drug administration, local police to check , access the quantity, seal the factory and initiate criminal action against the owner, Navdeep Malhotra. An official said though the owner has a valid license to do the work, but the process of dumping chemicals directly in the borewell might have polluted ground water on the large extent. The factory charged Rs 10,000 per borewell for the procedure, an official said. |
