Mobile app for education of hearing impaired people launched by Punjabi University Patiala

On the eve of International Day of Sign Languages, vice chancellor of Punjabi University, Patiala launched a mobile app for hearing impaired people. The app named AISL (All in Indian Sign Language) is developed by an assistant professor Dr. Williamjeet Singh, Amandeep Singh and  Aditi Sharma of Computer science and engineering department from Punjabi University.

Dr. Williamjeet Singh said that AISL is developed with an aim to provide an easy access to the education and training of hearing impaired people. The creative interface of app allows the users to map three spoken languages: English, Hindi and Punjabi with Indian Sign Language.

“The application is one of its kind where learning and testing can be done at a common platform with innovative content delivery system. A provision for quiz is also included for the evaluation of the learned concepts” he said and added that the app would benefit the people to learn Indian Sign Language in an effective way.

Dr. Singh also gave special thanks to Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi for their support. Head of the CSE department Dr. Raman Maini and Col. Karaminder Singh, Secretary, Society for Welfare of the Handicapped, Patiala also appreciated the whole work and motivated the team for creating more such app based solutions in the future also.
