Punjab State Women’s Commission Chairperson Manisha Gulati has been denied permission by Jail Superintendent Karnal to meet Labor rights activist Nodeep kaur, who have been in custody from around one month.

Spokesperson of the commission said that this morning the Superintendent of Karnal Jail called up the office of Punjab State Women’s Commission and said that Maniisha Gulati would have to get the approval of the Haryana Government to meet Nodeep Kaur before meet her.

Yesterday, Punjab State Women Commission’s Chairperson Manisha Gulati  met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and sought early release of Labour Rights Activist Nodeep Kaur, who lodged in Karnal Jail.

Nodeep Kaur case-home minister assures resolution; jail superintendent denies permission. Gulati raised the matter of Nodeep with Home Minister and informed in detail about the entire incident. She also urged the Union Minister to protect the democratic right of Nodeep Kaur.

On the occasion, Manisha Gulati had also stressed on the issue related to NRI grooms who deceived Indian girls on the name of marriage and appealed to enact a new law in this regard. Union Minister has assured to early resolution of these matters.

Even ,Punjab and Haryana High Court, taking suo motu cognizance of emails it received alleging “illegal confinement” of Dalit labour activist Nodeep Kaur, the Court has issued notice of motion to the state of Haryana.

The bench of Justice Arun Kumar Tyagi ordered that the matter be shown in the urgent list and adjourned it for hearing on February 24.

In another development, Nodeep Kaur was granted bail in an extortion case on Thursday but remains in jail because she faces another criminal case.
