Patiala police arrested Kingpin who runs illicit liquor factory

In a major breakthrough, Patiala police has arrested Dipesh Kumar, the Kingpin of illicit Liquor Factory at village Gandian in Shambu area in late night operation from City Rajpura.  He was wanted in case FIR 54 u/s 61 Excise Act, 420 (cheating), 465(Punishment for forgery), 468 (Forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged), 120 B (criminal conspiracy), 188 (disobeying public official’s order), 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection)  IPC & 10 Disaster Management Act Police Station Shambu Patiala.

This came to fore after Patiala Police unearthed an illegal distillery in Ghanour on May 13. Later Patiala SSP Mandeep Singh Sidhu had constituted a supervisory committee comprising SP City Varun Sharma, SP Investigation Harmeet Singh Hundal and Ghanaur DSP Manpreet Singh to probe and arrest the accused.

Patiala police booked six persons in the case and among this is a Khanpur Khurd sarpanch Amrik Singh, who is also an aide of Congress MLA Madan Lal Jalalpur; and Dipesh Kumar of Rajpura, who is a confident of Congress MLA Hardial Singh Kamboj was involved in the illegal distillery operation. The unit was being run from an abandoned cold store and the illicit liquor was being bottled under brand names of Royal Stag and local made liquor names. A case was registered on May 14 at Shambhu police station against the Dipesh Kumar, a resident of Rajpura, Harpreet Singh of Thuhha village, Amrik Singh of Khanpur Khurd, one Bachhi, Amit Kumar, a resident of UP and owner of the cold store.

The distillery, which was being run in a cold store, was operating at full capacity since the lockdown and were selling around 1,000 cases of liquor a day. At the time of raid Police found bottling machinery, empty bottles, drums of ethyl alcohol  (ENA), holograms, labels of different brands and boxes. One person was arrested on the spot.
