Patiala Police, MC staff astonished after medical examination of transgenders

On Friday Patiala police produced the eight arrested accused of obstructing Municipal Corporation Patiala, Punjab Police team from official duty, made obscene gestures in public and pelted stones over the team and public at local court. The court sent them to judicial custody for 14 days.
After courts’ verdict, Patiala Police took transgenders to Nabha Jail, where the jail authorities refused to take them citing a proper medical examination as must to ascertain if they were male or female, so that they can be shifted to that cell. Later, transgenders were taken to a panel of doctors for a thorough check up. To the astonishment of the police, four of them (Mahant Mamta, Norrie, Saroj and Kajal) turned out to be normal males, who were living and working as eunuchs.
“During medical examination Mahant Nancy and Pinky are found transgenders where as Mahant Mamta, Norrie, Saroj and Kajal were physiologically observed as male. They were disguising themselves as transgenders,” said an official. Later Mahant Nancy and Pinky were lodged in Nabha jail and other accused Mamta, Norrie, Saroj ,Kajal (disguising as transgenders), dhabha owner Pintu and Raju were lodged in Patiala jail.
