Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday ordered curtailment in timings of state government offices from today, and cutting down of power supply to high energy consuming industries with immediate effect, to save crops and ease the domestic power situation. Now, today the Punjab state power corporation limited has issue an Appeal to the “owners of Shopping and Commercial Establishments (including malls) in Punjab, to use power judiciously and switch off ACs for the next Seven Days till 09/07/2021.”

As per PSPCL officials, “due to prolonged dry spells (Delayed Monsoons), Paddy transplantation in the state and due to power shortage owing to failure of one u n it of the Talwandi Sabo Thermal power plant in Mansa district , PSPCL is facing problem in meeting the power demand of more than 14500 Plus MW. PSPCL is always committed to provide reliable uninterrupted power supply to all categories of consumers in the State.”

Power emergency in Punjab? PSPCL issues new restrictions in the state. PSPCL authorities further informed that “ in view of above unprecedented situation, we appeal to the owners of Shopping and Commercial Establishments (including malls) across Punjab to make judicious use of electricity by switching off the lights, devices & appliances when not required and switching off high power consuming appliances like Air conditioners for  the next seven days till 09.07.21. Regulatory measures have also been imposed on the industry which gave immediate relief after the heavy industries closed down by Thursday afternoon. We are expecting rains this week, and hence the situation  may improve  after that. However, till we get any respite in the surging power demand, your support will be highly appreciated in the larger interest of the  State, especially  our farmers.”
