Prevention and Cure of Breast Cancer: lecture organised at Khalsa College Patiala

A guest lecture was organised at Khalsa College, Patiala today by Girls Welfare Committee and Nanhi Chaan Cell, to spread awareness among girls and women regarding the disease of Breast Cancer which has become common in the present time. Dr. Raja Paramjeet Singh Benipal, Professor and Head, Department of Radiation Oncology, Govt. Medical College & Rajindra Hospital, Patiala was the key speaker who provided wide knowledge on how to diagnose this disease at the earliest possible. He shared his views with the audience that Breast Cancer, if detected early, is curable and it is the need of the hour that every woman should be well aware with the symptoms and treatment of the disease.

Dr Benipal said that the main causes of breast cancer are obesity, long term use of oral contraceptive pills, menopause, stress and addictive drugs. It is important to consult the doctor immediately if any problem is felt in this regard. Dr Benipal also told that preventive measures need to be taken like having balanced diet, leading stress free life and breast feeding the child.

College Principal Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha addressed the audience and said in his speech that physical health is a treasure that needs to be maintained as topmost priority. Khalsa College Patiala is among the forerunners in organising social welfare and social awareness programmes so that the best approach can be adopted for the better health of society.

Prof. Sukhmeen Kaur, Convener of Girls Welfare Committee and Dr. Balbir Kaur, Convener of Nanhi Chaan Cell contributed their best efforts in making the programme a success. Prof. Sukhmeen Kaur welcomed the guests and said that women in India should develop awareness regarding breast cancer. The staff members and students of Khalsa College Patiala attended the guest lecture.
