Harjot Bains , Cabinet Minister Legal and Legislative Affairs, Mining and Geology, Tourism and Cultural Affairs and Jails Punjab inaugurated lift irrigation scheme of water resources department worth Rs. 9.52 crore for the 521 acre land of village Thappal, Jhinjari, Mohewal, Tarapur etc. in  Anandpur Sahib. area.The land of these villages will be irrigated by this scheme whose source of supply is Anandpur  Sahib Hydel Channel.

Addressing a gathering of the people of the area on the occasion of an impressive function organized by the Water Resources Department Punjab at Jhinjari today, Cabinet Minister Harjot Bains said that the people of these villages of Changar have been facing problems of irrigation and drinking water for almost 70 years were struggling with. In the summer the people of these villages used to come to the banks of the river Sutlej with their livestock. Out of 200 villages in the area, 150 villages are suffering from water shortage which will be eradicated in next one and half years. He said that every area of Changar is different. He said that every area of Changar has been promised to supply water to every village and every corner, drinking water to every household and irrigation water to the fields. The first scheme has started today. Water has been supplied to 521 acres of land at Thappal, Jhinjari, Mohiwal, Tarapur at a cost of Rs.9.52 crore. The second scheme would provide water to 1015 acres by dedicating Rs. 18.52 crore to the people till the end of the year. The design of the third scheme has been prepared by IIT Ropar and sent to the Government.With the completion of this scheme at a cost of Rs. 80 crore, 4007 acres of land would be irrigated and water would reach every nook and corner of Changar. This will bring greenery and prosperity in the area, trade and commerce will flourish, means of transportation and roads will be provided, economy of common people will be strengthened.

The previous government has betrayed the people of the state. They have said that we have stopped the illegal mining activities. He said that progress has been made, results will be seen soon, the condition of land is improving with the closure of illegal mining, greenery has returned to the hills. He said that corruption has been eradicated, hearings are being held in government offices of common people, police stations, work of all is being done without any discrimination.

Earlier, the Cabinet Minister  Harjot Bains on behalf of the Water Resources Department inaugurated the first Lift Irrigation Scheme and opened the gate wall at Jhinjari and started supplying water to the farms through Lift Irrigation Scheme from Anandpur Hydel Channel Canal. Residents of the area echoed the sentiments and lauded the efforts of the Punjab Government and the Cabinet Minister.

On this occasion Deputy Commissioner Dr Preeti Yadav IAS said that all the officers are working diligently and diligently, whatever plan is being brought by the government, is being taken very seriously.
