Less rain in this monsoon has been a key concern area for govt authorities, these days, as dams in Punjab have less water storage this year as compare to last year, same time.

Due to low rainfall during the monsoon season, it doesn’t hurt PSPCL’s hydro energy production. PSPCL performed well in spite of all odds and generated more hydro power, in the month of July, this year , as compare to last year, same month.Any disruption in water supply affects production and leads to power outages.

But the good news is that despite low rainfall, Punjab state power corporation limited has generated more power in the month of July viz a viz last year in the same month.

As per information last year in the month of July, hydro power generated by PSPCL are 533.53 MUs . Whereas in current year, it generated 601.38 MUs, despite the fact that this year Pong dam reservoir was -1.69 less and Ranjit Sagar Dam is at -5.25 lesser than last year, on July, 31,2020

Its 110 MW Shanan power project generated 79.655 LUs, whereas this July it generated 78.358 LUs.

Upper Bari Doab Canal Hydro Electric Project (UBDC) generated 55.145 LUs last year, whereas this year it generated more power and closes at 59.223 LUs. The two stages of UBDC Hydro Electric Project have a total installed capacity of 91.35 MW.
