Punjabi university organized virtual anti drug day; chief guest Preneet Kaur attended online

Anti Drug Awareness and Prevention Cell, Punjabi University, Patiala organized an online program on the International Day against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking. Member of Parliament Preneet Kaur attended this online function as Chief Guest while Vice Chancellor, Prof. B.S. Ghuman presided over the function.

While conveying her message against Drug Abuse and illicit trafficking, Preneet Kaur said that she was glad that Punjabi University has joined hands to perform its social responsibility to increase the awareness about drug abuse and its prevention among student community. She also congratulated Prof. B.S. Ghuman in taking the lead to observe this day by connecting with the students online adhering to the guidelines sent by the government of India and Punjab Govt. She said that Punjab Government is committed to its promise to eradicate drug menace from Punjab and for this purpose, our government has launched ‘Anti Drug Buddy and DAPO’ Programs, which are successfully running in all educational institutions, she said.  She also congratulated University’s Nodal Officer Dr. Mamta Sharma and her team from Psychology Department for contributing a lot in devising Buddy and DAPO training modules. She wished all the teams engaged in eradicating the drug menace and contributing the regaining the healthy and bright future for all.

                             

Prof. B. S. Ghuman said India is called a ‘Young Country’ because the country has the highest proportion of youth in its population.  He said that country can benefit a lot if all the young people come forward for the welfare and development of the country in full potential. But all this is possible only when the youth of the country remains away from the evils like drug abuse. On this occasion he specifically mentioned the directions and programs of Director General Narcotics Control Bureau, New Delhi, Higher Education and Language Department Punjab, Department of Home Affairs & Justice, Punjab and Anti Drug Campaign, Punjab to organize functions to generate awareness against drug abuse and illicit trafficking. While specifically talking about the situation arising after COVID-19, he said that the drugs can even prove more fatal as this lowers the immunity of the body. Therefore the message against drug abuse should reach each and every home in the State.

Nodal Officer, Dr. Mamta Sharma said that the university has been regularly organizing awareness programs against drug abuse to contribute in its role of social responsibility.  She said that in this program students and teachers from the university and colleges also participated.

During this program many students presented motivating poems and stories to spread awareness against drug.
