ROBO-CART developed by Thapar engineering staff to help Covid 19 warriors

Recognizing the socio-corporate responsibility in this dire need of hour during covid-19 pandemic, a team of faculty and staff members at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala has developed a working model of a remote operated Robo-cart for the delivery of medicines and food to the Covid-19 patients admitted in Government Rajindra Hospital, Patiala.

The developed Robo-cart can be operated with radio frequency remote control which has a range of 15 meters. The cart can be operated at three different speeds and has maximum payload capacity of 30kg. The robo-cart has total three shelves, two lower three shelves for the loading of food and water while the additional third shelve is provided for delivery of medicines etc.

The device is delivered personally to Dr Harnam Singh Rekhi, incharge Covid-19 ward at Government Rajindra Hospital Patiala on 2nd May 2020.

The robo-cart is developed in just three days by a seven member team led by Professor Kulbir Singh from Electronics Engineering Department and Dr Ravinder Kumar Duvedi, Associate Professor, Mechanical engineering Department. The mechanical fabrication was accomplished in house in the Central Workshop of the Institute led by Manoj Kumar, Foreman Instructor with Jai Pal,  Roshan Lal and Rajan Kumar Banerjee. The electrical and electronics assembly was accomplished by Amanpreet Singh, Technician in electronics Engineering Department.

Thapar Institute has always remained in the front line for technology development in the region and is actively involved in research and development activities for evolving technological solution to fight the Covid-19 Pandemic. The developed Robo-cart would assist in saving the front line Covid-19 worriers from contamination by enabling them to keep safe distance while providing the essentials to patients with dignity.
