Sangrur administration sympathetically deals with drug addicts; 7134 new patients registered- DC

Deputy Commissioner Sangrur Ghanshyam Thori, on Wednesday, told that as many as 7134 new patients get themselves registered at OOAT clinics for de-addiction treatment during lockdown/curfew period. He said that there are 12 OOAT clinics operational in the district and till May 19, 12,169 drug addicts have been registered for treatment.

Ghanshyam Thori said that the anti-drug campaign of Punjab government is showing positive results in Sangrur district and due to non-availability of drugs, the addicts voluntarily getting them registered at government health institutions. He added that directions have already been issued to health department officials to sympathetically deal with the patients. DC said that from March 23, 2020 to May 19, 1,944 drug addicts have been shifted from private drug de-addiction centers to OOAT clinics.

Thori said the directions and advisory of health department and government regarding Covid-19 is also being ensured at OOAT clinics while providing medicines to patients. He added that district control room 01672-232304 has also been opened for registration of patients for drug de-addiction treatment.

DC said that any information or tip off regarding availability or smuggling of drugs or illicit liquor could also be given on Whatsapp helpline number 95924¬-30781. He assured that whereabouts of the informer will be kept secret and strict action will be ensured against drug peddlers.
