Union Ministry of Home Affairs has extended the date for the filing of applications for Sardar Patel National Unity Award till April 30, 2020.

Giving information, an official spokesperson said that applications for the award should be submitted to the State Government by April 15, 2020 after which the State Government can forward the applications that they have received for Sardar Patel National Unity Award to the Ministry of Home Affairs till April 30, 2020. The applications can be submitted in PDF format on the website [email protected]. People doing excellent work to maintain national unity and integrity can apply for it, he added.

Sardar Patel National Unity Award

Government of India has instituted the highest civilian award in the field of contribution to the unity and integrity of India, in the name of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The Award seeks to recognize notable and inspiring contributions to promote the cause of national unity and integrity and to reinforce the value of a strong and united India.

All citizens, without distinction of religion, race caste, gender place of birth, age or occupation, and any institution/organization would be eligible for the Award.

Any Indian national or institution or organization based in India would be able to nominate an individual for consideration for this Award. Individual may also nominate themselves. State Governments, UT Administrations and Ministries of Government of India may also send nominations.

The Award consist of a medal and a citation. No monetary grant or cash award is attached to this Award. As per the provisions, not more than three Awards shall be given in a year. It shall not be conferred posthumously except in very rare and highly deserving cases.

The candidate for the Award should have made outstanding efforts and notable contribution to promote and further the cause of national unity and integrity in a manner that may serve as an inspiration to others, and reinforce the value of a strong and united India.
