Congratulating the Indian hockey men’s team for remarkable victory over Germany and winning the bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympic Games, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Bibi Jagir Kaur announced to give Rs 1 crore from the SGPC for the hockey players for brightening the name of the country. SGPC President also announced Rs 5 lakh each to the Punjab players who participated in the individual games in the Olympics.She said that the hockey players from Punjab have made a big contribution in this achievement.

Bibi Jagir Kaur was addressing the press conference after inaugurating the sarai (inn) Mata Nanaki Niwas and residential quarters for the employees at Gurdwara Dukhniwaran Sahib in Patiala. “In the honour of the players who performed remarkably, the SGPC will be giving Rs 1 crore to the entire Indian hockey men’s team.

Similarly, Rs 5 lakh each will also be provided to the Punjab players who participated in the individual games and performed well”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur. She said that sports play an important role in the mental and physical growth of children, therefore, the youths should also take part in sports and achieve success along with their education. Bibi Jagir Kaur said SGPC has always promoted the sports and the Sikh body is also preparing players in the fields of hockey and kabaddi, who would be seen playing for the Punjab and the country in the future.

She said the SGPC is soon going to organise under-17 sports events, in which, the players of the games including basketball, hockey and athletics will present their talent. Bibi Jagir Kaur said that dedicated to the 400th Prakash Purb (birth anniversary) of Sri Guru Teg Bahadar Ji, the SGPC will soon be opening the preparatory institution to prepare the Sikh students for IAS, IPS, PCS, NDA and other civil services. “A report has been obtained from the concerned officials about this preparatory institution and after analysing the same, it will be passed by the SGPC executive committee to start the institution. Initially, we are planning to start a batch of at least 25 Sikh students, who will be provided free of cost coaching for the IAS, IPS, PCS, NDA and other civil and military services”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur.

About her visit to Patiala, Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “For the convenience of the Sangat (devotees), a newly built sarai Mata Nanaki Niwas and residential quarters for the employees have been inaugurated at Gurdwara Dukhniwaran Sahib. This new sarai is a three-storey building having 45 rooms, three halls, two lifts, and a basement for car parking. Similarly, 16 residential quarters have been built for the employees working under management. This Kar Sewa was handed over to Baba Amrik Singh.” On this occasion, Shiromani Akali Dal district president Surjit Singh Rakhra, former SGPC president Prof Kirpal Singh Badungar, SGPC executive committee member  Satwinder Singh, SGPC members Surjit Singh Garhi, Nirmal Singh Hariau, Jarnail Singh Kartarpur, Shawinder Singh Sabharwal, Jasmer Singh Lachhru, Bibi Kuldeep Kaur Tohra, and others were present.
