With the outbreak of Covid -19 pandemic and nationwide lockdown, country’s overall economy is hit hard. Small scale farmers are the worst hit due to unprecedented chain of events.

With the disruption of supply chain and fluctuating demand and supply sides , the farmers are looking for support and ready market to sell their produce. Inorder to ensure steady income to these farmers, Talwandi Sabo Power Limited ,Banawali in Mansa district has come up with a unique initiative ‘SWAD’ – Strength and Wellness At your Doorsteps.

SWAD aims at fetching fresh supply of pesticide free vegetables sourcing it directly from the local small and marginalized farmers, associated with sustainable agriculture project ‘Navi Disha’, for TSPL employees and its business partners. Employees can now place orders for fresh vegetables online and get it delivered at their workstation. This initiative immediately evinced enthusiastic response from the employees and more than 15 employees placed their orders on the first day of launch.

Farmers are delighted to have found a ready market for their vegetables, in the words of Amarjeet Singh, farmer  from Kamalu Swaich village ,” I am grateful to TSPL for providing me an opportunity to sell vegetables to its employees, I am looking forward to winning the trust of the customers with my fresh farm produce.”

TSPL’s CEO and WTD Vikas Sharma said, “This is a wonderful initiative, a win-win situation for both, the farmer and as well as the customer. While we are getting pesticide free vegetables, the farmer is getting a ready market for his produce.”

TSPL has been working closely with the farmers since 2017 through its sustainable agriculture project ‘Navi Disha’. Over the past 3 years the project has directly impacted over 1000 farmers. Majority of farmers associated with the project have resorted to organic farming and reduced their input costs considerably.  In the current scenario they have offered to sell organic pesticide free vegetables to TSPL employees not only at competitive rates  but ensuring hassle free delivery within the plant premises.

TSPL has been on the forefront of COVID-19 relief measures ever since the outbreak of pandemic in Mansa and is shouldering the responsibilities with district and police administration with full dedication and perseverance.

Unit has so far supported hundreds of families with dry ration kits apart from fumigation and disinfectant spray across villages in the vicinity, police check posts, primary health centre and as well as in district Mansa.

Essential services support was extended to police personnel on covid-19 duty while thousands of masks, full body suits, safety googles etc were handed over to district administration.
