Two held for demanding ransom by claiming themselves to be members of Bishnoi group

Rupnagar Police have arrested two members of the gang who used to demand ransom from prominent personalities by claiming themselves to be members of the Lawrence Bishnoi group.

While addressing a press conference here on Wednesday Rupnagar senior superintendent of police (SSP) Dr Sandeep Kumar Garg said that during search operation and during investigation of the case registered under section 25-54-59  of Arms Act with addition of section 472 of IPC at city Police Station Rupnagar the accused Ramandeep Singh alias Raman and Balwinder Singh alias Bindri Vasian Village Badi Jhalian, Police Station Sri Chamkaur Sahib, District Rupnagar were arrested by the police.

He said that the accused claimed themselves ta be members of the Lawrence Bishnoi group and called themselves “Singa Gangster” and used to threaten people over mobile phone calls demanding ransom from them.   He said that the accused had demanded a ransom of Rs. 3-3 lakh from one person from Mohali, two persons from Kharar and four persons from Rupnagar area and threatened to kill them if they did not pay the money.

He said that on August 25 the accused called the prominent persons of Rupnagar city from snatched mobile phone and threatened them for ransom. He said that after arrest, a stolen motorcycle, a snatched mobile phone, a knife and grinded red chillies (for putting in the eyes) were recovered from the accused.

Two held for demanding ransom by claiming themselves to be members of Bishnoi group. SSP said that further questioning of the accused is being done and more important revelations are expected.

DSPs Tarlochan Singh Singh,Pawan Kumar, Talwinder Singh Gill,Rupnagar City SHO Pawan Kumar and C.IA staff in-charge Satnam Singh were also present on the occasion.
