“We are indebted to Modern School for offering us free education as refugees”-Lord Rami Ranger

Lord Rami Ranger of Mayfair, member of the upper house of the British Parliament, the House of Lords, and one of the most successful British-Indian businessmen in the United Kingdom, is set to address his alma mater, Modern Senior Secondary School, G.D.N.S. Road, Patiala, on Saturday, 5 February 2022.

In a message, Lord Ranger says: “We are indebted to Modern School, Patiala, for offering us free education when we arrived in Patiala as refugees, having lost our ancestral home, father and country.” The British peer will be speaking at the school’s quarterly alumni programme ‘Alumni Inspirations’ and will be taking questions from students as well.

Lord Ranger’s company, Sun Mark Ltd., is one of the fastest growing companies in the U.K. It employs thousands of people and exports to 130 countries. The company has won an unprecedented five consecutive Queens Awards for Enterprise in International Trade. No other British company has this accolade to date.

Lord Ranger is also a major philanthropist contributing to a large number of noble causes. He has also established the British Sikh Association, is a founding member of the Hindu Forum of Britain, Patron of The Conservative Friends of India and Fellow of The Prince’s Trust, where he mentors under-privileged youth to realize their ambitions.

In 2005, Lord Ranger was given an MBE by the British Government. In 2016, he was awarded a CBE (Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire). And in 2019, he was given a life peerage and elevated to the House of Lords.

Lord Ranger lost his father two months before he was born. His father was trying to save 600 students of DAV School, Multan, during communal riots. The students were saved, but Lord Ranger’s father was martyred. Thereafter, Lord Ranger’s early life was in a refugee camp in Patiala with his mother and seven siblings. He was brought up by his remarkable mother who was a teacher. She could not give him much financial support, but instilled the right values in him which became the bedrock of his success.
