World University actively organising National Webinar in Lockdown

Department of Education, Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib organized a National Webinar to deliberate the Creation of Virtual Learning Environment. While presiding the event Dr. Prit Pal Singh, Vice-Chancellor, said that the global pandemic has forced us to innovate and taking learning and education outside the boundaries of classrooms. Dr. Singh added that a global pattern of virtual learning cannot provide solution. There is a need to think locally and devise e content according to the local needs of the students. The webinar moderated by Dr Harneet Kaur Billing, In-charge, Department of Education witnessed participation by about 1100 teachers, scholars and academicians from across different states of India as well as other countries of the world. Dr. Bhupinder Singh Ghuman, Dean applauded the efforts of the department and extended gratitude to the participants for their participation and support.

Starting the session Dr. Tejinder Pal singh, Associate Professor, UBS, Panjab University Chandigarh discussed the background of e-learning. Stressing the virtual learning cannot replace classrooms but can be used to support the same, he introduced a number of tools that can be handy to teachers is designing their learning spaces virtually. A number of tools like LOOM, Screencastify, Google docs addons and recording techniques were discussed. He also provided hands on training to the participants on evaluation apps like Kahoot.  Role of teacher is of paramount importance in any learning environment, be it physical or virtual. Leading by an example, Dr. Jasvir Kaur Chahal, former Dean Faculty of Education stressed on the need of developing life skills and listening for a conducive learning experience. She gave a large number of examples and stressed that teachers need to embrace change and develop sensitivity in their students.
