GNDU gifts Gym to students from this academic session
Amritsar-Guru Nanak Dev University is the pioneer University of Northern India in the field of Academics, Culture and Sports. Keeping in view the necessity and demand of students, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu took the initiative to establish a World Class fully Air Condition Physical Fitness Centre ( Gym ) with highly modern machines with approximate cost of Rupees One Crore covering an area of 3000 sqft in the university campus.
Earlier, the campus students have to go outside for their gym work out which was very expensive and due to lack of time, far away from the university many of them avoid and skip gym activities. This Gym will be operational shortly from this academic session for faculty, employees, students and outsiders at a nominal fee. The main objective was to encourage students to make them health conscious, physically fit along with their studies.
The Cardio Zone, strength Zone and Free Exercise Zone etc will be created in this Gym along with Commercial Treadmill, skill mill, Cross trainer, Compact Cable cross, Leg press, Hip abduction, High extension, Doubles and other modern machines have been provided.
This Gym will be housed in the building of the Dean Students Welfare of the University. Three qualified trainers will be appointed to provide proper training workout and attendant for take care of the machines.
Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu said that the student does not become a good student with a sick mentality and a sick body. For a healthy society, it is very important for the people to be healthy. He said as long as we do not inculcate good habits among our children, the children will not be mentally strong. He said instead of drugs now with the establishment of this Gym students will be attracted towards physical fitness. With the availability of this facility in the campus, most of the students will love to join the fitness centre. As a doctor and as an administrator, this world-class Gym is a gift to the students, he added.
